Telecare Results in Peace of Mind

The client, Mr W, is an elderly gentleman living on his own on the Romney Marsh.  He suffers from various medical conditions including Dementia.  He has carers visit him on a daily basis in order to assist where required.


The family does not live close by and due to this they were naturally concerned about their father's day to day welfare and safety.  Therefore they contacted Shepway Lifeline in order to get advice on what protection they could offer.  They demonstrated a dispersed alarm to the client and family which was duly installed.


Due to the clients deteriorating health, further time was spent with the client and his family and subsequent recommendations were made where other Telecare sensors could assist with the protection and care of their father.


Over a period of time and various assessments of the clients home and needs, they have now set up the following Telecare sensors in his home:



  • Dispersed alarm unit

  • Pendant trigger

  • Fall detectors

  • Bed sensors

  • Pull cord in the shower

  • Flood detector in the shwoer room

  • Smoke detector

  • Universal Sensor - with door contact on front and back doors

  • Safe sockets (as client had additional telephones)

  • Responder service

Telecare was a new concept for the client and his family, therefore in order to give them total confidence, the activation log is checked weekly and an installer visits them on a monthly basis to check all peripheries are working correctly.


Recently, Mr W's son wrote Shepway Lifeline a letter and he made the following comments:-


"Because sadly my father's mental health is failing (in reflection extremely fast) the installer and the support sections are enabling my father to stay in his own home safely (which is what he wants), if he were to go into a 'Home' I am sure his health would go down very fast and any self dignity he has would go.  In fact I think it would kill him!"
