A business based on the south coast has taken a major step forward in its plans to fast track the growth of the company and become a leading player in the UK’s telehealthcare market.
Wealden and Eastbourne Lifeline (Welbeing) in East Sussex was originally set up by Wealden District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council as a joint venture in 2005 and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. With many smaller operators being bought by larger companies as part of an on-going consolidation of the UK’s telecare market, the limitations of the structure meant that it was unable to effectively compete against bigger competitors.
To support a strategy of continued UK wide growth from its base in Eastbourne, Welbeing has changed its legal status to become a private limited company. This has allowed the necessary investment for expansion to be provided by Eastbourne Borough Council under the government’s Public Private Partnership initiative.
