2011 Review - Day One

 

The International Telecare & Telehealth Conference 2011 was held at the Hilton London Metropole on the 14-16 November. The event further cemented its place as the leading Conference in Europe for Telecare and Telehealth with a record number of 826 delegates and 45 exhibitors. A new record attendance, despite the current economic conditons.

 

 

Trevor Single, Chief Executive of the TSA, openedthe 2011 Conference commenting on the challenges facing the telecare market. These challenges included:

 

  • 15.5million people in the UK suffering from Long Term Conditions
  • Over 65s will rise from 9.3milllion to 16.8million in the next 5 years.
  • 700,000 people with dementia. Within 30 years will be 1.5million with a cost of £1.5billion a year.

 

Trevor also took inspiration from Bob Dylan’s classic ‘The Times They Are a Changing’ to highlight the Government’s plan to improve the take up of assisted living technology through their ‘Plan for Growth’

 

The emergence and importance of Telecare and Telehealth was supported by the appearance of the Minister of State for Care Services, Paul Burstow MP, who delivered a Ministerial Keynote Address.

 

Code of Practice Awards

 

On Monday evening, delegates attended the TSA Telecare Code of Practice Awards Dinner. During this occasion, twenty organisations achieved accreditation to the TSA Telecare Code of Practice, with a further thirteen organisations achieving accreditation with the European Technical Specification for Social Alarms. There were also four organisations receiving recognition for both the TSA and European Standards.

 

David Ardron, TSA Director, was as always an excellent compere, reviewing the fantastic work being carried out by TSA members, and the awards were presented by the TSA Chair, Lorna Muir.
