Telecare Services Association

How the service works

Those who depend on Telecare, need to be confident that the service will deliver to a high standard when needed.

Service users and their carers are therefore recommended to contact a Service Provider who covers their area to ensure that all the following aspects are professionally organised. Follow this link to Find a service.

Assessment: It is critical that each individual is assessed against their specific needs. This is best done by an accredited organisation  which can advise on the range and combination of sensors best suited to the home environment and the person concerned.

Installation: Correct programming and installation of equipment is equally essential. This is usually carried out, or arranged, by the organisation that conducts the original assessment. They will also explain how the equipment operates and demonstrate the sensors in action, linking through to the monitoring centre.

Telecare Response Centre: This will hold relevant personal information about each individual and their condition alongside key contact details which are prioritised in readiness should an incident occur.

A key responsibility and benefit of the monitoring centre is its human response and 24/7 support. It never sleeps and is always there for the individual, ready to organise the necessary response, be it to contact  a neighbour, relative or the emergency services.

Response: Effective response is what Telecare is all about. Help when help is needed. Monitoring centres agree with each service user and their carers / family exactly what is to happen in every circumstance. These protocols are regularly reviewed and constantly updated as individual needs change.

"When I fell in the bath the Telecare service called for the ambulance, they were here within 10 minutes."
