What is telecare?
Telecare is a service that enables people, especially older and vulnerable people, to live independently in their own home. 90% of people say that that is their wish and Telecare allows it to happen. Equally it gives peace of mind to family, friends and carers, knowing that when they are unable to watch over their loved ones, Telecare will.
Telecare is a service, not a technology. An increasing range of electronic sensors in the user's home automatically raise the alert and organise - through human contact - an effective response should a problem arise. The sensors enable Telecare to happen, but alone they are not a solution. Most Telecare needs a 'care phone'. This telephone technology is the vital link with a monitoring and response centre. Highly skilled staff are trained to deal with any alert raised by the sensors and organise the agreed response.
